Unable to roam in Netherlands (data)

Hello,

I arrived in the Netherlands yesterday from South Africa and installed my NOS SIM in my iPhone SE (2022) running IOS 18.3.1.Mobile data is ON. Roaming ON. Network selection is automatic (Odido). I can make and receive calls and SMSs, but data roaming is not working. The APN is set automatically to "umts". I have tried selecting other networks manually, but nothing else works (NO SERVICE). I have tried all the usual things of switching the phone off and on, looking for other possible APN settings (I found nothing).

I tried calling NOS support in Portugal, but it seems that technical support is not available over the weekend. (Or I did not understand the Portuguese auto voice support.)

Can anyone offer any ideas what to do? Thanks in advance.

So the problem is now resolved -- my data raoming was blocked (by NOS) and has now been unblocked. I don't know whether NOS staff read these postings, but I will offer some feedback here anyway:

  1. There is no way to see on the NOS app or website that my data roaming was blocked. Therefore it seems like any other error and leads to a lot of fruitless effort on my part to resolve.
  2. It was not possible to call NOS about this class of problem over the weekend. Therefore it took from Friday evening (when I tried to start roaming) until Monday morning at 9h00 Portugal time (10h00 Amsterdam time) for me to be able to reach NOS by telephone. I don't think it is reasonable to not offer support for this at weekends.
  3. The call centre operator said it was normal to block data roaming for a new account. However my account is not new and this is not the first time I have roamed -- I have in fact roamed successfully in the UK in July 2024 and in Netherlands in October  2024. The operator could not explain this.

All in all this has not been a good customer experience.

Contractual Roaming is active by default on tariffs paid on invoice if you have not requested the service to be blocked.

Thank you.
