Cancellation within the 14 day "trial" period

I switch to NOS after a telephone solicitation.  My MEO contract was about to mature so I thought it was a good time to try the service that has a 5G cell tower 100 meters from my house.  The cell service was phenomenal but the fiber was out for at least 10 hours a day, beginning in the morning.  After struggling with service requests, I decided to terminate the contract and return to MEO, which worked well, but had poor cell service in my location.  The internet was more critical for us as we still own a business in the US.

I terminated the contract with 14 days, as provided for by Portuguese law.  They would not allow me to return the equipment at the retail location when I informed them of my cancellation.  After 2 more attempts, I simply left it on the desk of Ines at the Lagos NOS location.  I have a photo (time and date stamped) of the boxes on her desk, but she refused to be in the photo.  I am back with MEO, but I still get NOS messages that cannot be responded to, so I hope this gets someone’s attention at NOS.

Has anyone experienced this level of frustration?  What would be the best course of action as I can get nothing done at the retail location?

Hello @William or Karen Tomko,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear about the difficulties you encountered, both with the service and the cancellation process. We understand how frustrating this situation must have been, especially when having a reliable internet connection was so important for your business.

To better understand what happened, could you please let us know how you formalized your cancellation request? For example, was it made through the My NOS app, the website, by phone, in a NOS Store, or through another channel?

We'd also like to take a closer look at your case. When you have a moment, please send us a private message with your NOS customer number or NIF and any additional details you consider relevant to the @Fórum profile.

We'll be happy to review the situation and provide you with an update.

Thank you

My NIF is ********.  I initially went to the NOS Lagos location and spoke with Ines on Saturday, May 23 at 12 pm.  This was on day 12 after initial activation.

The reason for cancellation was repeated, prolonged, outages of fibre service.  There was no TV, Phone, or internet during these periods.  I had attempted to report these several times but could never speak with an English speaking representative.  I was told one would call me back, but we never connected.  All of the frustration made my decision for me.  I will say that the cellular service was flawless and always was 5G.  MEO rarely connects above 4G.

I have Google timeline data that shows my visits up to the last one when I left the equipment on Ines' desk and photographed it  on the desk before I left it there.  The equipment was in its original packaging and includes the modem, tv box with remote, and the power adapters for each..Both SIM cards were in the packaging as well.  It should be quite easy to look at the call records to see when they stopped.

It appears that I am still being billed for the service package.  I have no problem paying for the 12 days.  Well, at least for the cellular service anyway.
