I lost my Wi-Fi calling (again) so had to call customer support on my lap top via Skype which costs . Why oh why can’t you talk to customer support via their online app or via WhatsApp or some other online medium or even send an email!!!!! Two hours later the last technical operator couldn’t speak English so he said he would get a colleague that speaks English to call me .I explained no one can reach me as I have no mobile signal on my house . 5 times in Portuguese I explained I need to wait. The Nasty man just cut my call.  Two hours of being bounced around to technicians that couldn’t help me and listing to the worst music in the world . I am fuming . I will make an official complaint once I have my sanity back. For a technical company they are ver LOW TECH. Rubbish I can’t wait to change my provider

I’m off , started the process yesterday. How to make a big company such as Nos accountable for illegal blocking . Any ideas let me know , I’m retired , I have time but no money for big tech lawyers 

 

beware every one if Wi-Fi calling doesn’t effect you , they will find a way to shaft you that’s for sue . Trying to access customer service easily for onr

Well it’s been over a month , so I think your technical team need to sort them selves out. I am trying to find proof that you are blocking starlink  . The more evidence I gain the more I’m convinced . You did the same with my last satélite internet provider and I ended up have to get a VoIP account at great expense . You cannot be allowed to get away with this. Maybe it’s another team of experts you need to consult

After analyzing this matter along with the NOS specialized teams, we’ve come to share with you the conclusions taken.

The Wi-Fi calling functionality is intended to be used only in nacional territory, where the terminal (smartphone) needs to be connected to national public IP address.

Even if your router is in Portugal it could be using a public IP address which is not Portuguese. This case was verified in router from Starlink in Portugal.

In that sense the network (starlink) is being registered as a foreign network, not allowing the end terminal (smartphone) to make use of the Wi-Fi calling functionality due to the restriction first mentioned.

Why had it been working when we subscribed at NOS, 1,5 years ago, specifically to have WiFi calling?

And why were we not notified when NOS cut this functionality??

And what about @CP001 remark then?

Foreign IPs  are blocked, but Starlink is not an external IP.  As far as I know: in the register held by the Portuguese regulator (ANACOM).

AND WHY DOES IT WORK AT MEO??

I am telling you what, I believe, happened.

After claims here that people would use Wi-Fi Calling outside the country last July, NOS did what this company normally does very quickly: harming its customers.

 

Foreign IPs  are blocked, but Starlink is not an external IP.  As far as I know: in the register held by the Portuguese regulator (ANACOM).

 

I might personally ask the European Commission if this decision violates “Roam like home” and portability services principles.

Internal communication is clearly a challenge for NOS.

 

For now, I am not sure if this is legal or not. So that is why this evening I have asked ANACOM if this is legal.

We appreciate your feedback. 

From what we concluded no change were made on the NOS end. As stated, the service only works when the terminal device is connected to a network that uses a external Portuguese IP address.

If the device is connected to a network that is using an external IP outside the stated range of IP’s, the Wi-Fi calling will not work.

So what you are saying is that Starlinks satellite that we were connected to before September was Portuguese and then they swapped it for a foreign one? 
 

Ive heard some stories in my 72 years but that takes some beating. I’m afraid Nos you are digging a deeper hole for yourself day by day

Not really. What I am saying is that before September you could use NOS Wi-Fi calling and Starlink. And now you can’t.

 

To tell the truth, before September you could use NOS Wi-Fi Calling with any IP (foreign or not).
 

Starlink is considered a Portuguese operator, so in my opinion they cannot block Starlink, but I am not 100% sure about that (I am not an expert). And that is why I have asked ANACOM if this is legal.

Although their 5G s****, at least I can use WiFi Calling with Starlink again.


Yes I am going through the transfer process so that I can keep my number for the hospital , I am keeping  my husbands spare phone on nos for emergency’s only and also out of nosiness to see how it all pans out when Anacom get involved I will keep you posted . I’m still

miffed that I’ve had a month of being told ‘it’s your device, your router, call this number for 45cents’ blah blah xx and not once did we hear about this foreign ip policy xx , if it wasn’t for CP001 , I could have sworn they just made it up. I’m waiting to hear Starlinks comments after I posted NOS statement, I will keep you informed 🙏🌈

The carrier chooses whether it wants to collect IP data or not. As of this day, this Policy applies only to NOS. In conclusion, today MEO is the way to go, because they have a different policy. They may use similiar foreign IP data collection, but at least they do the right thing concerning Starlink/Wi-Fi Calling,

Pelo que entendi não tem nada a ver com satélites ou com bloqueios. 

É possível que a starlink estivesse a usar IP’s portugueses e tenha deixado de usar por algum motivo.

Podem ter esgotado os ips publicos que tinham e em vez de comprarem mais, terem usados outrs ip’s que tinham disponíveis e rotacionaram-nos entre os clientes…

pelo que vejo a diferença é que a meo permite o uso mesmo no estrangeiro e a nos não. mas é uma situação distinta. o isp pode permitir ou não o uso de serviços no estrangeiro. 

se a starlink está a usar ip’s estrangeiros como dizem, não se trata de bloqueio nenhum, trata-se 1. a nos não permitir o uso em roaming; 2. a starlink estar a usar ips externos que não são portugueses por isso é como se estivessem em roaming mesmo não estando.

@Bruno Aleixo falou-se disso neste fórum em julho. O serviço na NOS funcionava em qualquer IP do mundo antes de setembro. Foi uma alteração das condições do lado da NOS em setembro, mas não acautelaram que funcionasse em operadores nacionais como o Starlink.

 

Em roaming acho que nem o MEO nem a NOS funcionam. Em roaming é preciso que o operador estrangeiro suporte a funcionalidade.

 

Aqui estamos a falar de clientes que estão em Portugal e que se ligam regularmente à rede móvel portuguesa.


Vivo em Portugal numa zona morta, se viajasse para o estrangeiro (o que não fiz) não usaria o meu IP português nem levaria o meu prato starlink comigo. eu usaria wifi local. eu não usaria a minha conta móvel nos, compraria um cartão SIM local se precisasse. qual o sentido de um mercado comercial europeu. ainda estou à espera de saber se a starlink é uma empresa registada em Portugal
 

I live in Portugal in a dead zone, if I traveled abroad (which I didn't) I wouldn't use my Portuguese IP nor take my starlink dish with me. I would use local wifi. I wouldn't use my US cell phone bill, I would buy a local SIM card if I needed to. what is the point of a European commercial market. I'm still waiting to find out if starlink is a company registered in Portugal

Onde? acho que nunca li sobre isso… estava só a basear-me neste thread. Como disseram que dava até setembro e deixou de dar e tendo em conta que:

  1. funciona noutras redes wi-fi nacionais independentemente do operador. 
  2. só não funciona na starlink que nao é nacional, apesar de atuar em portugal 
  3. o que os moderadores disseram sobre não funionar com ips não pt

dá para concluir que a starlink deve ter começado a usar ip’s não portugueses. acho que isso os users podem confirmar, é só verem qual o ip externo que o router deles está a usar:

Se de facto é um ip portugues e não funciona, então ai algo se passa porque não bate a bota com a perdigota, mas até lá parece-me tudo ok.
